Police in Butaleja District are holding Oboth Matthew in connection with the suspected murder of a man on December 24, 2024, in Bugolola "A" Village, Bunghanga Parish, Budumba Sub-County.
According to IP Mugwe Johnson Moses, the Bukedi South Region police spokesperson, the deceased has been identified as Mubiru Ibra, aged approximately 25, a peasant and resident of Kaliro District.
"It is alleged that on the morning of December 25, 2024, at around 7:00 a.m., two boys, Wanjala Emmanuel and Saiga Innocent, sons of Namusoga Gladys Edith, discovered a body hanging from a mango tree along the road," Mugwe stated.
The boys were reportedly on their way to a nearby borehole and trading center to fetch water and buy Christmas spices when they made the shocking discovery.
They informed their mother, who alerted a neighbor, Oboth Matthew. In turn, Oboth's daughter, Angella, notified the LC1 Chairman of Bugolola "A." The chairman immediately contacted the Officer in Charge (OC) of Busabi Police Post and Budumba Police Post, who responded promptly.
"A death inquiry file was opened at Butaleja central Police Station to aid investigations," Mugwe said.
"The scene of the crime was examined by a team led by the District CID Officer, including the homicide team, SOCO, OC Operations, and other officers." He added.
The deceased's body was transported to Mbale City Mortuary for a postmortem. Mugwe confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided.
