Cultural leaders urged to audit some cultures, norms and practices

President Yoweri Kanguta museveni has asked the cultural leaders to audit different cultures, norms and practices with the aim of eliminating some which are irrelevant in the modern time.

In a speech delivered by John mulimba the state minister for foreign affairs during the launch of Imbalu circumcision season 2024 at Mutoto cultural ground in Mbale city, president Museveni noted that backward practices like female genital mutilation, cattle rustling, early marriage and wife inheritance should be be stopped.

Museveni also called upon parents to be strict in cultivating moral and values in their children, counselling youth to embrace hard work and fight against HIV/AIDS pandemic in order to save and uphold young generation.

He also encouraged Bamasaba to use culture as an opportunity towards development through rehabilitation of cultural sites, sell of cultural art craft and construction of cultural museum which can bring in revenue in the country through tourism.

“NRM government support culture, we continue to embrace values that don’t interfere with violation of people’s rights and opportunities” president Museveni added.

King Amenya Fiti V the president of the forum of kings sultans and traditional leaders of Africa as well as Paramount chief of Aflao Ghana who also graced the occasion hailed president museveni for championing the effort of African unity and development.

He appealed to youth to stop going abroad in looking for green pasture but instead study, invest in agriculture and carryout business hence creating employment for themselves.

“Nobody will bring employment from China, India, Europe, German and USA, but they are just after our natural resource which needs to be protected ‘king Amenya said.

His Royal Highness Jude mike mudoma the Umukuka 111 of Bamasaba commended the subjects for loving their culture emphasizing that Imbalu is a unifying factor which brings Bamasaba of Uganda, Kenya and diaspora together.

 Honorable John Baptist Nambeshe the member of parliament for manjiya county in Bududa District as well as opposition chief whip in Uganda's parliament applauded Umukuka 111 Uwelukosi Jude mike Mudoma for organizing a unique Imbalu ceremony for 2024,but pleaded the  Inzu ya masaba to take time and get to know the population density of Bamasaba so that they can benefit in the national cake.

However, Nambeshe showed  his dissatisfaction to NRM  Government saying Bugisu region have supported National Resistance Movement  for almost 40 Years but they still lagging behind as far as sharing the national cake is concerned.

He further implored Umukuka to use his voice to tell the subjects vote against president museveni come 2026 so that he can hear them.

Karim masaba the Member of Parliament for Mbale industrial city division said Bugisu region has great potential for tourism but the investment is still lacking.

He asked government to invest money in Mutoto cultural ground and constructing of the roads leading to tourism sites.
