PS Nambiro Warns teachers Against Absenteeism amidst salary Ehancement

‎Jimmy Nambiro the head of the education desk in state House and also serve as President Museveni's Private Secretary in-charge of Education and Skilling has issued a stern warning to teachers against absenteeism and late reporting to duty, emphasizing that strict disciplinary measures, including withholding salaries, will be enforced to ensure accountability and improved service delivery in schools across the Country.

‎“Teachers who fail to report to duty on time or abscond from their responsibilities risk having their salaries withheld until they comply with duty requirements,” Mr. Nambiro warned.

‎Nambiro noted that with recent salary enhancements and government efforts to improve educator welfare, chronic absenteeism and laxity are unacceptable.

‎According to the ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic development the 2026/2027 National budget introduces a UGX 568.65 billion allocation aimed at enhancing salaries for primary school teachers and arts/humanities teachers in secondary schools and BTVET institutions. This phased pay increase targets over 155,000 educators to help bridge the longstanding salary gap between arts and science teachers.

‎Nambiro noted  that salary ehancement among teachers both Sciences and Arts is a milestone in the education sector but from the recent supervision exercise across the country,he realized that many teachers receive salaries but don’t work towards Government’s expectations.

‎Nambiro says this level of attendance to duty is unsatisfactory and is tantamount to cheating of Government.

“Therefore the responsible government offices in-charge of monitoring that includes : District education officer,Resident City Commissioner, Resident District Commissioner, Inspector of schools ,Chief Administrative officers and Politicians among others must review the current duty rosters and correct the irregularities as matter of urgency.” He reinstated.

‎He went further and urged these officers to take appropriate action on all those who have been absenting themselves from duty without permission from their supervisors and report back to his office for quick action.

‎"Absenteeism is witnessed in most  government Aided Schools hence a leading factor causing poor performance  in number of schools country wide". He revealed .
