Ronald Mutengo Hanghuja the Member of Parliament for Bunyole East in Butaleja district, has called upon the youths to prioritize development and avoid drug addiction, saying the future of the community depends on responsible and productive young people.
While speaking with our reporter over the weekend, Mutengo encouraged the youths to make wise use of opportunities and financial support given to them by leaders and government programs.
He emphasized that small amounts of money received from Members of Parliament and other support initiatives should not be wasted on unproductive activities but instead invested in income generating projects.
According to Mutengo, the youth can transform their livelihoods and improve household incomes through activities such as livestock rearing and agriculture. He explained that development begins at family level and that young people have a major role to play in ensuring economic progress in the district.
“If the MPs give you something, use it for development like rearing cattle, pigs and productive agriculture,” Mutengo advised.
He encouraged the youths to embrace modern farming methods, poultry keeping, piggery and cattle rearing as reliable sources of income instead of depending entirely on handouts.
Besides promoting development, Mutengo strongly warned the youth against excessive alcohol consumption, which he described as one of the biggest challenges affecting progress among young people in the region.
He noted that alcoholism has greatly contributed to poverty, poor decision-making, unemployment, domestic violence and lack of focus among many youths.
He explained that alcohol abuse not only affects personal health but also destroys dreams and weakens the ability of young people to plan for their future. According to him, a sober mind is able to think critically, work hard and make proper decisions that benefit both individuals and their families.
“Please my youths of Butaleja particularly Bunyole East, let us work together for development of our home and avoid alcoholism because this pulls us down because of not being sober,” he said.
Mutengo further pledged to work closely with the people of Bunyole East County to promote unity and development during his new term in Parliament.
He promised to support community initiatives aimed at uplifting the standards of living of the people and assured residents that his leadership would focus on improving the welfare of all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
He urged residents to cooperate with leaders and participate actively in development projects that can improve roads, education, agriculture and household incomes.
He also assured the youths that he is ready to stand with them and support programs that empower them economically and socially.
Mutengo emphasized that leadership is about service and promised to remain accessible to the people throughout his term in office.
The legislator expresses gratitude to the people of Bunyole East for entrusting him with a full five-year term of leadership. He appreciated the confidence the voters have shown in him and promised not to disappoint them.
