Honorable Steven Masiga the Spokesperson of Bugisu Cultural Institution revealed that Masaka City Resident City Commissioner has abandoned his role and currently organizing gang to attack the cultural institution to disruption the development programs in Masabaland.
Masiga expressed deep concern over intelligence reports alleging plans by certain individuals to disrupt the activities of the institution and threaten the leadership of His Highness the Umukuka.
Masiga further said that information available to the cultural leadership points to an alleged scheme involving individuals linked to Mr. Washaki, the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Masaka, and other associates. The institution has called upon security agencies to thoroughly investigate the claims and ensure that peace and public order are maintained.
“We have received intelligence reports suggesting preparations aimed at disrupting the operations of the Bugisu Cultural Institution during the first week of July. We have formally notified the relevant government authorities and security agencies and expect swift action to prevent any acts that may undermine peace and cultural harmony,” Masiga said.
He emphasized that the Bugisu Cultural Institution is a legally recognized cultural entity established within the constitutional framework of Uganda and that any attempt to intimidate or attack its leadership would be a direct challenge to the rule of law and the cultural rights of the Bamasaaba people.
Masiga urged all individuals who may have grievances against the institution or its leadership to seek redress through lawful means, including the courts of law and other established dispute-resolution mechanisms.
“The path of dialogue, justice, and lawful engagement remains open to everyone. Resorting to threats, violence, or acts intended to create chaos is unacceptable and has no place in a democratic society governed by the Constitution,” he said.
The spokesperson further appealed to security personnel and public officials to remain professional and avoid being drawn into any activities that could compromise peace and stability.
“We call upon all stakeholders to safeguard the dignity of our cultural institution and to promote unity, respect, and peaceful coexistence. The Bugisu Cultural Institution remains committed to working with government and security agencies to preserve peace and protect the cultural heritage of our people,” Masiga added.
The institution reaffirmed its confidence in the government’s ability to uphold law and order and pledged to continue pursuing peaceful and lawful approaches in addressing any challenges that may arise.
