Hon. Godfrey Wanyoto, Member of Parliament for Budadiri West County, Sironko District, has expressed concern over limited science teachers deployed in secondary schools across the country.
While speaking during plenary sitting on Thursday 2nd October,2026 , Hon. Wanyoto said that Bugunzu Seed Secondary School in Sironko district has less than 5 science teachers who teach over 1000 students, yet students pledge to study science courses at university and other institutions of higher learning.
Wanyoto said the shortage is affecting science performance and denying learners opportunity to compete favorably.
"President Museveni has always emphasized prioritizing science teachers and science education because it's backbone of development ,but schools have no teachers," Wanyoto said .
He urged Ministry of Education and Sports to urgently recruit and deploy more science teachers, especially to rural Seed Schools.
"How do you expect a school with over 1000 students to have less than 5 science teachers? Government must act," Wanyoto said.
He added that many schools in Elgon Sub-region are facing the same challenge, which is crippling the government’s policy of promoting science education.
