Honorable Shafiga Wanyenya, Member of Parliament for Bungokho North County, Mbale District, has called upon the people of Bugisu / Bamasaba Sub-region to embrace tree planting as a means of mitigating climate change.
Hon. Wanyenya said that rains in Bugisu Sub-region have not only become unpredictable but scarce, and urged the Bamasaba community to wake up and plant trees.
Wanyenya noted that deforestation and poor environmental practices have led to landslides, floods and low crop yields in the region.
"Rains have become unpredictable and scarce. We must all embrace tree planting if we are to save our environment and future," she said.
The legislator urged every household to plant at least 10 trees and also protect existing forests.
She promised to distribute tree seedlings to schools and communities as part of her efforts to restore forest cover in Bugisu.
