Honorable Godfrey Wakooli, Member of Parliament for Butiru County, Manafwa District, has advised parents to nurture their children well in order for them to have a better future.
Hon. Wakooli said that indiscipline among youths is on the rise due to lack of proper parenthood.
He stressed that parents should look at their children in the best way possible if they want the young generation to be important people in future.
Hon.Wakooli made the call while addressing Media at his residence in Butiru County over the weekend.
He noted that many parents have neglected their responsibilities, leaving children to be raised by the streets and social media.
"Parents should take time to nurture, guide and educate their children. That is the only way we shall have a better future generation," Wakooli said.
Hon. Wakooli said due to the economic situation in the country, some children may resort to doing evil things to get money. He urged parents to keep their children busy to prevent them from criminality.
The legislator said that education is one of the most valuable tools a parent can give to his child, but some parents have denied their children a right to education by not taking them to school.
He noted that idleness and poverty are pushing many youths into theft, drug abuse and other criminal acts.
"Due to the current economic situation, our children can easily be tempted to do evil things to get money. Parents must keep them busy with productive work and education," Wakooli said.
He condemned parents who keep school-going children at home for garden work or business, saying it is a violation of children's rights.
Hon.Wakooli called upon local leaders and government to enforce laws that ensure all children access education.
