Honorable Peace Khalayi the Woman Member of Parliament Namisindwa district has rallied all stakeholders in fight against the teenage pregnancy crisis in the district.
Hon. Khalayi, has revealed that there is alarming teenage pregnancy prevalence in Namisindwa District, hence attracting different partners to join in the fight.
During Contraception day celebrations in Magale Town Council over the weekend under theme"A choice for All, Agency, Intention,Access" , Hon. Khalayi learned that from June last year, over 1000 girls were defiled in the district representing 27% above the national average that stands at 22%.
"Most parents have turned their children as source of wealth which is unlawful," Hon. Khalayi noted.
The legislator condemned parents who negotiate with defilers for money instead of seeking justice for their daughters.
She called upon cultural leaders, religious leaders, police, teachers and health workers to join hands in ending teenage pregnancy and defilement in the district.
Hon. Khalayi pledged to continue supporting girls through sensitization, education support and ensuring defilers are brought to book.
