Residents of Bukhabusi sub-county in Namisindwa district have raised concern about the poor road network in their area. locals say they are counting losses due to exorbitant transport fares because of the poor road network in the sub-county.
One of the roads that is said to be in sorry state is the 3 kilometer stretch that connects Bukhabusi Kharakara to Bukhaweka Market in Bukhaweka Sub County. It is the main feeder road that connects many locals and students to St Stephen Comprehensive Secondary School,Situmi Primary School,Kitongo health 2, Bukhabusi health centre 3 among others.
This feeder road also connects to Namisindwa district headquarters through bukhaweka -Tsakhano and Nambola main road among others. Our reporter visited the said roads and found no inaccessible and filled with mud , making them unmotorable.
Some of the residents interviewed, Joyce Khaitsa councilor representing Bukimwaga parish said that since independence no tractor has passed on this road ,district leadership has never considered this road ,we have claimed the lives of our pregnant mothers due to inaccessible infrastructure .
John Mweru , Annet Mutonyi , all residents of Shoyoka village in Bukimwaga Parish Bukhabusi Sub County, say that most of the community roads are in appalling condition, which affects the transportation of agricultural produce to markets.
They say trucks can't access this area , only motorcyclist are the one's who can try to maneuver through these rough roads.
David Wazala a resident of Situmi A , Bukhaweka sub-county and trader says they are forced to hike the price of their commodities to meet the high transport costs. Wazala blames district authorities of neglecting the area.
Mariam Seela , another resident says people in the area struggle to reach health facilities. Watsemba observes that the poor road network is also limiting traders from accessing the sub-county and in turn affecting the price of their produce. She however appreciated honorable wamana Peter for overwhelming support with facilating those engaged in communal work(reopening road) by digging using hoes.
Enock Wambusi, the LC I Chairman Shokoya Village in Bukimwaga Parish accuses the district leadership of swindling the money meant to rehabilitate several roads in the Sub County and negligence.
Honorable Peter Wamana the aspiring member of Parliament Namisindwa county, says the onset of rains is already worrying both the community and business persons who solely depend on agriculture for survival. Wamana however, said they have already forwarded the matter to the district authorities for action.
He said the Sub County and entire constituency is faced with leadership challenges. He promised to continue seeking for support to different partners and engage with Uganda National Road Authority-UNRA to open roads in the area , if he takes leadership as next member of Parliament of the county.
Wamana asked the community to be vigilant and vote who will improve service delivery like roads, heath among others in the next general elections.
