Police Investigate Murder of 18-Year-Old Girl in Mbale


Police in Mbale are investigating the murder of 18-year-old Jane Nambuya, a resident of Busajjabwakuba Cell, Namunsi Ward, Northern Division, Mbale City.




According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, Jane was returning from a nearby shop after buying charcoal on June 11, 2025. On her way home, she was attacked by two youths who demanded her phone. When she attempted to resist, one of the assailants slashed her on the left side of the neck with a sharp panga. She fell to the ground and died instantly.





Taitika also revealed that residents chased the assailants and managed to arrest one, known only as Muhamund, a resident of Doko Cell. Upon searching him, they found a blood-stained panga and the deceased's smartphone in his trousers. Enraged, the residents lynched him on the spot.


Taitika called on the community to take responsibility by reporting any new individuals in the area to the local council offices for security purposes.


Hussein Kadimba, the Assistant Resident City Commissioner for Mbale City, condemned the violence. He urged residents to remain vigilant as security investigates the matter to its conclusion and warned against taking the law into their own hands.


Nabombi Japhali, the LC2 Chairperson of Afiya Ward in Busajjabwakuba North City Division, stated that some youths are engaging in drug use and called upon parents to speak to their children.
