While speaking yesterday Tuesday at the wash and wills hotel located at Malukhu Industrial city division in Mbale city during sensitization exercise with traders from the Bugisu subregion, the URA acting tax academy Commissioner John Tinka Katungwensi says that the purpose of this sensitization exercise is to create awareness in Business community members about dangers of tax default and involving in corruption.

He says that some traders end up conniving with some URA staff to default taxes after giving them some money which is illegal.

Katungwensi says that this affects the tax revenue base of the country ending up hindering development of the nation.

Moses Wanjala URA eastern Regional Manager says URA is losing lots of money due to defaulters and traders conniving with their staff saying this is not going to be tolerated as the government.

He says that they are going to deal with any URA staff and business member seriously who will be found involved in such corruption.

Wanjala adds that these days most of the URA taxes are paid from the bank direct but not giving staff hard cash in hands which traders must know.

Sarah Wetonda a business woman from Bugema expressed her happiness with the sensitization but urged URA to always put tag names on the clothes of their staff such that they can easily identify their names and report them.

She says that it's true some of their staff comes to their business premises asking them to pay some little money and leave them .
