Bunambutye locals risk arrests over lack of latrines - Mbale RDC warns

Naome Nakawala The Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mbale has warned locals in Bunambutye sub county without latrines will face arrest most especially family heads in order to increase latrine coverage in the area.

This was revealed during the commemoration of sanitation week and world water Day in Bunambutye sub county Mbale District, under the Theme "sanitation and hygiene for all-a key to sustainable health living"

She noted that the percentage of people having the latrine is still low in Bunambutye sub county and other parts of the District.

"We are coming up with an operation soon and if found no latrine,the law will take it's course so sort out before Action "Nakawala said.

Esther Kakai The Assistant Health inspector for Mbale District highlighted that the health team have managed to sensitize 774 households in Bunambutye sub county to build pit latrines and hand washing methods regularly as a away of improving sanitation and hygiene.

According to current statics they indicates that after sensitisation,361households have managed to build up latrines and 265 are still in pipeline .

She said that there is still a big challenge on how people conduct themselves on the issues of health whereby 10 households share one latrine and washing hands among others.

"More effort and work is needed for people to have latrines and hand washing practices "Kakai added.

She called upon locals to avoid dumping human waste everywhere which may cause unhygienic diseases like cholera .
