A total of 534 lockups have been reallocated to the genuine vendors in Mbale central market during verification exercise that Lasted for almost two weeks.this exercise was done by officials from state house,ministry of local government,Resident City Commissioner , Mbale City Town Clerk and his team, the political wing from the City Mayor among others led by Mr. Ettedu JJ.
While speaking to the media over the weekend, John Jacob Ettedu the Assistant commissioner from the ministry of local Government noted that the three quarter of the market have been rented out to the vendors by the rich people claiming to be developers and landlords yet the market belongs to vendors and the landlord is city council.
"We are very satisfied that all 534 lockups have be reallocated to the real vendors"mr Ettedu said.
He also revealed that over 143millions was collected within 10 days during the verification of the vendors In the market.
"We are asking the council to use that money for paying power,water,disposal of garbage and contract the private security firm" Ettedu added.
The commissioner warned those masquerading as landlords to stop threatening vendors , if persist they will face the law.
"They have been collecting huge taxes and put in their pockets,let them leave the vendors to use the facilities in the market"He added.
