Hon.Masaba Advocates For treatment of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus in Government Health Facilities

 ‎

Honorable Karim Masaba, Member of Parliament Industrial City Division, Mbale City, has called upon government to introduce treatment of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus in government health facilities like Mbale Regional Referral Hospital among others.

‎While addressing the media over the weekend during the CURE 10Km Run which was led by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Marksons Oboth and other partners , Hon. Masaba said as legislators they are going to advocate for government to pass the budget to fund Mbale Regional Referral Hospital to have services like those in CURE Hospital so that those who cannot go to CURE Hospital can go to Mbale Referral.

‎"Many parents cannot afford CURE Hospital. If government equips regional referrals with similar specialized services, we shall save many children in the region," Masaba said.

‎Hon.Masaba stressed that the number of children born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus is on the rise in Uganda and the Eastern region as well.

‎He added that Mbale Regional Referral Hospital and other health facilities across the country are receiving increasing cases, but lack specialized equipment and personnel to handle them.

‎Masaba called upon government and partners to invest more in prevention, early diagnosis and treatment, including sensitizing mothers on antenatal care and folic acid supplementation.

‎However, he hailed CURE Children's Hospital for supporting and treating children with Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida, noting that the hospital has saved lives of thousands of children across Uganda.

‎The CURE 10Km Run was organized to raise awareness and funds to support treatment of children with neurological conditions.
