Stephen Wambalo the head teacher Mbale High School has advised Parents to raise and nurture their children as a shared responsibility. He added that parents should teach their children practical skills, support the development of their talents, and educate them about themselves including their culture, language, and other important aspects of identity.
“A child is raised by all of us, and we must work together in their upbringing. Teachers should fulfil their responsibilities, and parents must also play their role at home teaching children practical skills, their language, culture, and moral values.” Mr Wambalo
Wambalo also emphasized the vital role teachers play in a child’s development, noting that every teacher who interacts with a child contributes something valuable from an early age. He thanked the staff of Mbale High School and managements committees for their dedication over the past 40 years in teaching the learners and urged parents to avoid frequently moving their children between schools, as this disrupts learning.
“When a child misbehaves, you should correct and discipline them not mistreat them. And when a student does something good, you should praise them and let them know they did well. This is how we properly raise a children.” Wambalo
He also thanked the teachers for their hard work in teaching children, identifying their talents, and helping them develop. He urged parents to collaborate with teachers to prepare their children well for the future.
However Mr Wambalo said that Mbale high School has cemented its status as one of Uganda's top academic institutions, consistently posting impressive national examination results. The school's administration and board often credit this sustained excellence to a strong foundation, dedicated teaching staff, and a holistic curriculum that balances academics with vocational and co-curricular activities.
