MBALE CITY: Mbale Police Primary School Wins Bugisu Region Climate Change Debate Tournament.

 The Tournament that brought together more than Ten schools both Primary and Secondary from this region saw Mbale Police "Wanyera" Primary School in Mbale City emerge as first runner up beating North Road Primary School, Nabumali Boarding Primary School among others as well as secondary schools.

This initiative has been on ground to sensitise the public on climate change mitigation and adaptation,with schools used as the point of Entry.

The project is organized by Ministry of Water and Environment , The Kyoga Water Management Department in partnership with Uganda National Students Association under the theme "Nurturing climate change" which were held over the weekend at Mbale Senior Secondary School in mbale city, Tournament is part of the preparation for World Water Day on march 22.

Damali Kalukusu the Patron of Debating Club Mbale Police ''Wanyera''Primary School said that this competition was too stiff and too competitive as compared to last year, we have seen improvement in the level and quality of debate as well as interest from the learners.

"Climate Change is the most urgent issue that we have as a country and as the world with due to the recent dry spell in the region, Everyone of us has the responsibility for climate reclamation, " Added Kalukusu .

Milly Namataka the Head Teacher Mbale Police ''Wanyera'' Primary School hailed the participants and organizer for this great initiative by the Ministry of Water and Environment in the fight to restore climate in our communities.

"School debates are essential for a raising awareness about environmental and climate change issues," said Namataka.


She further stressed that discussing different view point and solution, debate help young people understand the urgency of environmental challenges.

'' This not only increasing their knowledge but also inspire them to support sustainable practices and policies, this is crucial for addressing climate change," Madam Namataka.

However Eng Maximo Twinomuhangi the principal and team leader of the kyoga water Management zone , said that the government has developed a catchment water Management system in collaboration with district leaders , other stakeholders in Elgon Region this strategy will introduce community based projects that actively engage locals in Restoration Activities.
