Naguru hospital operating without CT scan

Members of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) have today learnt with shock that that Naguru China Friendship hospital has operated for three years without a CT scan.

The Executive Director of Naguru Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Tugaineyo, has told the MPs that they have been turning away patients seeking such services.

He attributed this situation to the absence of a legal instrument defining the hospital’s status, which has left administrators grappling with meager funds, staff shortages, and inadequate equipment.

“When we went to the Ministry of Public Service, they said they needed that instrument that elevated the facility to a national referral hospital, before getting a new structure for staff and other essential equipment”, he told MPs during an interface.

Gorretti  Namugga, the PAC Vice Chairperson wondered how the hospital had operated without a CT scan for such a long time, asking the ministry of health to act on the matter swiftly.

“The absence of a CT scan at a such a facility makes health care very expensive for patients, as they have to go to Mulago and come back and queue again at Naguru, spending more money and time that is necessary”, said Ms Namugga.
