A total of 605 students graduated from mbale school of hygiene yesterday in ceremony held at school premises in Mbale city.
While speaking at 4th graduation event,Ilukor Geresom the principle of Mbale school of hygiene, said 421 graduands received certificates in environmental health science,168 Diploma in environmemtal health science and 21 Diploma in health leadership and management.
"We have equiped our graduands to venture in to self sustainable avenues in absence of public service employment,they have been given entrepreneur skills to venture into business"Ilukor said.
He said Mbale school of hygiene has grown from a student population of 60 in 1958 up to 713 in 2024.
"We are celebrating the success of our collective efforts, commitment, hard work, and dedication that our graduands mastered to make up to this day. We thank the government for providing the environment and support in training and skilling the environmental health workforce for this uganda” Ilukor revealed.
However mr Ilukor noted that managing the growing number creates a lot of challenges like lack of enough accommodation space for teaching and sleeping.
He also said that the school has 5 full time tutors,11 non teaching staff on government payroll and the remaining 64 staff are not on government payroll including teaching and non teaching staff.
Hajjat Safina Musene Kisa the commissioner Nursing /health education and training in the ministry of education and sports who presided over as the chief guest on the 4th graduation ceremony,asked the graduands to be examplary in the community for ensuring that homes,health,education institutions,and food are safe for human consumption.
"As the recipient of the services that your going to provide when you come to us,we expect you to be professionals and experts so give us accurate results and be available at work place,keep time for work"kisa said.
"Take care of your life, don't get into funny behaviours and contact diseases"kisa noted.
She also commended parents for ensuring that learners reach this mileage despite the challenges they have gone through to reach the level of completion.
wanagwe Dorine , Mutonyi farida and balayo who graduated with diplomas in environmemtal health sciences pledged to work with leaders to see that there is health promotion in the communities.
Mbale School of hygiene was established in 1958 to train health inspectors,health Assistant and health wardens with the aim of addressing challenges such as poor housing,low social status,ignorance and poor living conditions that were prevailing during post world war errors.
