An interim Committee of Government Communication Officers (GCOF) has gone on a week-long retreat in Moroto to lay down strategies for reaching the public with essential information that aids the development of Uganda.
Following a presidential directive to provide the public with necessary information, the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, which also accounts for GCOF, is facilitating the retreat with objectives to improve the government communication function.
According to Ministry of ICT officials, the retreat aims at establishing a working pattern where all GCOF members feed into the component of communication across all government ministries and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to promote government projects, policies, and achievements. The retreat organisers said that they chose to have it hosted in Karamoja to appreciate the government’s milestone of work done in the region. While on the retreat, the interim committee plans to meet with district communication officers of the nine districts in Karamoja to discuss the achievements and challenges of communicating government strides in the area.
The retreat is one of the responses to President Museveni’s continuous outrage at bad and negative media publicity on government policies, projects, and achievements.
