Mindset is what keeps people lagging behind because many think aid has to only come from abroad, Steven Keddi has said, also pulling the ears of those who think it is the government's responsibility to dress the chicken.
He added that Keddi Foundation, mindset change programmes, humanitarian activities including helping those in need, is one of the core principle of his activities in posterity.
Keddi made remarks on Tuesday at Speke Resort Munyonyo while receiving a honorary doctorate award from Berlin-based Humboldt University, for support for the needy and vulnerable people.
Keddi has since taken lead in advocating for better education, clean water and elevating communities especially in trying to help thousands of the youth living in ghetto communities in Uganda.
He applauded the government for ensuring peace and security that he said is a big enabler for carrying out his various activities.
Keddi attributes his achievements to committed team at the Foundation.
Presidential Assistant Private Secretary Caroline Kembabazi congratulated Keddi upon his doctorate award, saying it was a testimony of his commitment to humanitarian work.
“Our role as government is to help people and I am so happy that Keddi Foundation serves humanity," Kembabazi said.
"I’m going to ensure the president appreciates this man for what he’s doing to develop this nation."
She urged Keddi to visit and extend humanitarian services to other places to answer the hopeful calls of serving humanity.
Humboldt University's director for African studies Vivian Hench said Keddi has contributed to the change of lives of many Ugandans more than many donors.
Dr Hench added that the honorary doctorate by Humboldt University is only awarded to those who have contributed to the progress of humanity towards social empowerment.
“Dr Keddi’s acceptance of the PhD is especially so meaningful and this is our first honorary doctorate to a Ugandan and to a Uganda,” Dr Hench added.
