ABIM DISTRICT : Okello installed as Kiru archdeacon

According to the Rt Rev Simon Akol Isu, the bishop of North Karamoja, the installation is more than just a ceremonial event; rather, it is anticipated to serve as a catalyst for transformation and development in the area.


Abim District is alive with jubilation following the installation of The Rt Rev Alfred Okello as the archdeacon of St Peter’s Church of Uganda, Kiru.


The ceremony, which took place in Kiru Town Council, drew hundreds of faithful who rejoiced in witnessing this significant event.

The atmosphere was filled with joy as the community gathered to honour Rev Okello's installation.

Traditional Ethur bull dances, performances by children, and heartfelt presentations from the Mothers Union added to the festive spirit of the occasion.

“As Ethur, today we are overjoyed by this significant event, seeing our brother installed as the archdeacon,” Ven. Jimmy Rowlands Ringisi, the archdeacon of Lotuke, said

Leading the installation proceedings was Simon Akol Isu, the Bishop of North Karamoja. In his role, Bishop Isu conducted the ceremonial rites with reverence and showcasing the importance of this appointment within the church and the community of Abim.

Addressing the congregation, the newly installed Archdeacon expressed his profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve

“I am here to serve as a unifying force, bringing together believers from different walks of life to pray and reaffirm their faith," Okello said.

"The task ahead of me will also be to plant churches where the community can come together and reflect on their shared values and aspirations."

Paska Okello, wife of the newly-installed archdeacon, expressed her overwhelming joy at the large turnout for the installation ceremony.

She emphasised that the significant number of attendees demonstrated a profound commitment to building a strong church community.

The installation of Rev Okello marks a significant moment in the spiritual life of St Peter's Church and the wider Kiru community.
