Police of Kawempe have arrested a UPDF soldier and
one civilian for robbing a mobile money agent at gunpoint.

Robert Kyaligonza, the rogue soldier in custody, and his accomplice, Elia Sekyanzi, stole shs 600.000 from Polymath Investments, an Airtel branch in Maganjo, around 11 am on Monday.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire,
the duo were apprehended by police officers from Katale police station as they
were on their way back from a robbery mission in Maganjo A Zone, Maganjo
Parish, Nabweru Sub-County, Wakiso District.
Owoyesigire stated that despite the suspects' attempts to avoid arrest, the
officers noticed them carrying a bag suspected to contain stolen money and
apprehended them.
“During the arrest, Kyaligonza Robert was found in possession of a star pistol
with 8 rounds of ammunition. The suspects later confessed to robbing a mobile
money agent in Maganjo, administered by Muwonge Eddy.” he said
Owoyesigire revealed that the duo invaded Polymath Investments and coerced the
workers, Eddy Muwonge and Christine Nanteza into surrendering all cash on the
premises, resulting in the theft of six hundred thousand shillings.
Reports indicate that Robert Kyaligonza been detained by the UPDF because he
has previously been implicated in a theft case.
Police said that this investigation will be expanded further to ascertain
whether the fire arm used in this robbery has appeared in any previously
reported crimes involving the use of a gun.
In order to reduce such robberies against mobile money agents, police has
advised them to reduce on their operation hours especially at night .
The team at Kawempe has identified the victims of the robbery case, and their
statements have been taken to aid in the ongoing investigations.
