The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Senior Manager of Communication and Public Relations,Rogers Mulindwa has stated that no funds belonging to the ruling party were stolen from the home of Treasurer Barbara Nekesa.
He further clarified that no official investigation has been initiated against her.
"I want to make it clear that the NRM party
has not incurred any losses, contrary to the inaccurate and reckless claims
made by certain individuals. The money in question belonged to the Ambassador and
her husband,"he clarified.
"I also want to put it on record that no investigation has been ordered or
sanctioned by the party chairman against our Treasurer,"he added.
According to reports, armed robbers broke into the couple's residence in
Bukasa, Makindye Division, Kampala on December 5, 2023, with the assistance of
a residential guard identified as Wango.
Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga recently informed journalists that the
residential guard deactivated the alarm system and the CCTV cameras, which were
monitored and controlled from the central security room near the main gate.
Since then, the police have made several arrests, including four officers, in
connection with the robbery.
The stolen amount is reported to be shs41.5 million , which Nekesa had
allegedly withdrawn from her account at the DFCU Bank, Nakasero branch.
Some sources speculate that the wealthy Lumolo, who owns multiple businesses,
including car dealerships, might have brought home money without informing his
wife.
The police are currently investigating the loss of shs2.2 billion
Mulindwa appealed for calm while the police and the court continue their
investigation into the matter.
"We should wait for the outcome as the police and the courts of law carry
out their work."
