On Friday, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert
Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, implemented changes to the opposition
leadership in Parliament as the first half of the parliamentary tenure came to
an end.

In the reshuffle, Kyagulanyi removed Mathias Mpuuga from the position of Leader
of the Opposition (LOP) and appointed Joel Ssenyonyi, the Nakawa West
legislator and NUP's spokesperson, as the new LOP.
Ssenyonyi, who has been in parliament for about two years, was announced as the
new LOP on December 22, 2023, during a press briefing at the party headquarters
in Makerere Kavule.
Mpuuga had served as the LOP since May 28, 2021, totaling 2 years, 6 months,
and 26 days. He had been actively advocating for the release of 18 missing
party supporters.
